Organize all of your materials and overview the course
Check out our Community! This is a private group you can visit to ask me questions, get light feedback when you post your artwork and share with peers.

Welcome to week 1 of Color Portraits in Oil! This week we prepare our panel and start our drawing for the painting stages!
This week we will transfer our drawing and start our tonal underpainting and also discuss the importance of value structure in designing a portrait.
This week we dive into color theory and begin mixing our palette for our portraits. We use this palette to create a small color study in preparation of our larger painting.
This is a big week for establishing lots of core concepts. We dive into color on our portraits, but first we start with lectures on planes of the head, the features and a technique for blocking in a portrait called "tiling". Take your time getting through this material, we cover a lot!
In these lessons we dive into blocking out the first color layer of our portraits which sets the foundation of subsequent layers.
This week we begin refining the individual forms of the face and adding more details to our portraits
This week we use glazing and scumbling to add details to our portraits
This week we add detail to the hair and clothing
This week we add the final touches and make some big changes to our painting!
